2012 Raffle Quilt
The 2012 raffle quilt was introduced at the March 2011 MCQA meeting. Raffle quilt chairman Chris Wiik and her great group of Tuesday quilters went right to work preparing kits using the batik fat quarters donated by MCQA members at the meeting. After a program on paper piecing at the April 2011 meeting, members took home all of the prepared kits and returned the finished blocks to Chris in record time. Wow! What cooperation from our talented members! Chris and her Tuesday quilters will assemble the quilt top and she has also volunteered to complete the quilt with her astounding longarm quilting. This amazing paper pieced quilt will surely make it easy to sell a record number of raffle tickets.

Letter From the 2010 Quilt Show Chairman
A big thank you is extended to all who helped make our quilt show a success!!! Appreciation is felt for all who donated their time and materials... including the Quilt Show Committee Chairs and the Volunteer Workers... for all who donated to the Magazines/Books/Patterns Table and the Silent Auction and Door Prizes... for all of the Fashion Show participants and those who lent Props... for all of the Vendors, their donations and demonstrations... for the Judges for their perspective and the Ribbons which they awarded... for Ben Franklin's meeting space... for all who sold raffle tickets... for all who registered quilts to display... and for all who attended and participated. It would not have been the same with one less person. It was fun to see old friends and meet new ones. Don't forget to come to the November MCQA Meeting for the Volunteer Prize Drawings, Gifts for the Committee Chairs, updated results from the show, and perhaps a few more surprises. Thank you again!

Autumn Comforts 2010 Show Recap
For two great days, the Great Lakes Rooms at NMU were packed full
of quilts, special exhibits, vendors, and displays. There were 265 individual quilts entered for the show from quilters throughout the Upper Peninsula, Northern Wisconsin and the Lower Peninsula. In additional there were seven special exhibits featuring many more wonderful quilts including The Gossard Quilt honoring the many women that worked at the Gossard Factory in Ishpeming and Gwinn. A list of the winning quilters is now available as well as photos of their quilts. Click here to view the photos. Click here to view the list.
Judy Parlato, Kathy Peters and Ragene Henry completed a quilting project with 17 students from a local elementary school class funded by a grant from MQN. These portrait quilts were exhibited in the youth category at the quilt show. For more information and a link to pictures of the quilts, click here.
We were also excited to feature the quilts of one of MCQA's oldest members Betty Jannausch. Three of Betty's beautiful quilts were on display along with a written story about this amazing quilter.
Also we had a special exhibit featuring the work of Lenore Crawford our April workshop presenter. Lenore generously shared four of her award winning quilts which were displayed along with MCQA member quilts. You can learn more about Lenore by visiting her website at: http://www.lenorecrawford.com/.
MQN Region 1 hosted a lecture/trunk show on Saturday, October 16th at Bonanza Steakhouse. The guest speaker was award winning quilter Mr. Dan Burke of Lansing. It was an inspiring evening and we look forward to possibily having a workshop with Dan in the future. Additional information about Dan is available on his website at http://www.quiltingbytheriver.com/ or by clicking here.
2010 Raffle Quilt
The raffle quilt for 2010 was unveiled at the MCQA Christmas potluck meeting in December. Three names for the quilt had been suggested by members and a vote was taken at the January meeting. It was approved to name the quilt "Northern Lights". A gift certificate was given to Tracey Cairati for suggesting the name that was chosen. The quilt top was graciously donated by guild member Jane Vandenburg. Quilting was done by guild member Becky Lutey. The winning ticket was drawn on Sunday at the quilt show and the lucky winner was Linda O'Brien from Marquette. Linda is the teacher involved in our youth portrait quilt project. How exciting for everyone that was involved in that project. Congratulations Linda and thanks to all members that sold tickets.
