Michigan Quilt Network
MQN Showcase 2010
"Twenty Years of Quilted Memories"
September 16th - 19th, 2010

MCQA is a member of the Michigan Quilt Network, a state organization founded in 1989 to promote the art of quilting throughout the state of Michigan.  Further information about MQN may be obtained by viewing their website or by contacting MCQA members Alice Johnson or Cindy Yackel.  Mark your calendars for the 2010 MQN Showcase quilt show.  We are located in Region 1 of MQN which encompasses all of the UP.  Several exciting projects are currently underway involving our region.  Each year one of the MQN statewide regions is responsible for making the raffle quilt for the annual MQN Showcase quilt show.  Region 1 members have completed the quilt top for the 2011 quilt and it is currently at the quilter.  It will be completed and shown at showcase this September in Lansing. Region 1 is also sponsoring the Kids' Quilt Project to promote young people's knowledge and interest in quilting.  The 4 week project is taking place in Linda O'Brien's 2nd/3rd grade classroom at North Star Academy Elementary in Marquette.  Each child is making a self portrait approximately 14 inches square with fusible appliqué and lots of embellishments.   Along with the portrait quilt the children are writing their autobiographies which will be placed on the backs of the quilts.  The quilts will be exhibited at the Marquette County Quilters Autumn Comforts Quilt show on October 16 -17, 2010.  Region 1 is hosting a trunk show and lecture during Autumn Comforts Quilt Show!  We are fortunate to have this great Saturday night addition to the show with guest speaker Mr. Dan Burke of Lansing giving a talk on "foundation/paper piecing then & now:and the difference between the two".  Read more details on the quilt show link by clicking here.   www.michiganquiltnetwork.com

 Michigan Quilt Art Invitational
Michigan Quilt Artist Invitational brings together the work of Michigan artists who are committed to using the quilt form as a vehicle for visual expression.  Each year selected artists create an original quilt based on a theme.  These quilts then form the traveling exhibit that tours galleries, museums, and libraries throughout the State of Michigan and have been shown in Marquette at the Peter White Public Library.  Further information may be obtained by viewing their website. Several guild members have had their quilts accepted for the 2010 show.  www.maryandrewsartquilts.com/MQAI.htm
