November Program: Teresa Ross - Upcycled Neckties!
MCQA member Teresa Ross from Escanaba provided a truly fun hand's on program at our November meeting. Members were provided a piece of a
necktie, thread and needle and (with a little luck) went home
with their 'new' flower brooch. Teresa has made dozens of these flowers and patiently helped everyone through the instructions to twist and fold their necktie until a bud and flower emerged. Thanks Teresa for a fun program. Instructions may be printed by clicking here.

October 2012: Tips from a Tremendous Trio
What a treat to have three talented members share our October program providing us with valuable information just a month before our quilt show. Millie Sage started with a bed turning demonstration and we were all reminded how very important it is to always put labels on our quilts. Judy Parlato shared tips for preparing your quilt for judging. Chris Swenor demonstrated how to perfectly bind your quilt. What a talented tremendous trio. Thank you all.
September 2012: Preparing Your Quilt for Judging
Once again MCQA member Alice Johnson stepped up and presented an informative and timely program. With the quilt show rapidly approaching it's time to look carefully at the quilts that you have entered and see them through the eyes of the judges. Alice has entered many of her beautiful quilts in shows and also helped scribe during the judging for several years at the MQN show. Her experiences and tips were invaluable. A list of things that judges look for can be seen by clicking here. Also the form that the judges will use at our quilt show in November can viewed by clicking here. Thanks again Alice.
August 2012: Free Motion Freedom
Karen Sanford and Judy Parlato presented an informative program on various aspects of free motion quilting. Karen shared many of the tips she uses on her longarm quilting machine and provided everyone with some fabulous printed materials that you will surely refer to when you start your next quilting project. Judy talked about quilting free motion feathers and different techniques that can be used. Both love to explore free motion quilting and their enthusiasm was contagious! Tell yourself "what if?" and "why not?" and then have fun!!!!
July 2012: Christmas In July
For six years Evann Johnson and Ann Pilotte have created great projects and led our Christmas in July program. This year 27 members had a wonderful time making table runners and holiday ornaments while visiting and sharing good food. Thanks to Evann and Ann who have always come up with great ideas and often have provided kits. We appreciate all of the thought and effort you've put into creating this opportunity for us.
June 2012: Pep Rally for the Autumn Comforts Quilt Show
Judy Parlato and cheerleader Ragene Henry gave a fun program to "rev up the quilting" for the 2012 Autumn Comforts Quilt Show. Members of the quilt show committee presented a hands-on demonstration of the online registration forms and quilt category examples were shown. What a fun meeting and everyone went home inspired to get their registrations in early. Thanks Ragene and Judy.
May 2012: Customizing Your Bow Tucks Bag
Chris Swenor has found ways to customize her bags so each is very different and unique. In her program, Chris shared tips for adding piping and an inside zipper pocket to your bag and offered websites with videos to help guide you through the process. The Bow Tucks Bag pattern is shown here and is available at your local quilt shop. Thanks Chris!

Show & Tell

One of the most exciting parts of each MCQA meeting is Show and Tell. It's a time of inspiration and challenge as members show their latest work and tell about their project. It's a wonderful opportunity to recognize the creative abilities of our members as they share their completed projects. Pictures are taken and posted on the website at http://photos.marquettequilters.com/ and listed by month or by topic. Click on this link to go to all of the past photo albums from meetings and other activities for 2009, 2010 & 2011. You may copy, save or print pictures from the photo album. Take a look and you'll see why we all go home inspired!
