Annual Library Surplus Sale
The library annual surplus sale will take place at the February and March meetings.  Items not checked out in the last several years will be sold to make room for new publications.  There may be an old favorite of yours available at a ‘garage sale’ price.  Items to be sold may be reviewed by clicking here.  A current inventory of all MCQA library materials is shown below.

Background
MCQA has an extensive library of publications that are available to all members in good standing.  A selection of publications will be available at every monthly meeting with new books added each year.   Items may be checked out for a thirty (30) day period or until the next regular MCQA meeting and renewed upon approval of the library committee.
Plan to arrive a bit earlier and take time to browse our expanded library inventory and the new library cart.  Budgeted for 2011, the new cart is a welcome addition as all of our books can be displayed at each meeting and are conveniently displayed making it easier to find that perfect book for your next project.
A special thanks to our librarian's husbands who "volunteered" their time to help with construction, moving and the donation of the hardware and paint.

  New In Our Library

Quilting Arts Magazine
As requested by membership, a subscription for our guild.  New issues of this contemporary quilting publication from Interweave will arrive every other month, and include web-extras.  Oct-Nov features:  “Stitch Intensive” issue, low cost surface design with reusable silk-screens, and, as always, lots of inventive inspiration.
  Donations
from Judy Courtright, Sara Doubledee and Judy Parlato, including books on Japanese quilting, Michigan quilts, quilting history, quilted clothing and an easy ‘stained glass’ fusing technique with patterns useful in making stencils as demonstrated by Judy P. in her  Schoolhouse sessions.   Thanks to Judy, Sara, and Judy for sharing some really interesting books new to our collection.  Stop by the library and browse…..

Alphabet Soup:  Expressive Quilts with Folk-Art Charm

Have you ever wanted to work words into your quilts, but not known how to create the letters and words? Not just how to make letters and words, this book demonstrates several ways to incorporate letters and words into fun small quilts for your walls using easy fusing techniques.  You can use the patterns as is, or learn how to make your own letters and words that will fit into your own designs.

Fast-Folded Flowers:  Timesaving Techniques for a Quilted Bouquet
Laura shows how to use quilter’s quick tools to make blocks (squares, triangles, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, dodecadrons) and combine them into projects that feature texture from folding coordinating fabrics into designs that resemble cathedral-windows.  The versatility of her technique is shown in a variety of projects.

Neutral Essentials with Alex Anderson
Alex uses neutrals to make lovely quilts, comfortable, cozy – not far from the classics.  These quilts ‘work’ – and Alex’s lessons on choosing fabrics can lead to quilts that are “drop dead gorgeous.”  By considering fabric color, value, and character of print, you will learn how to make your neutral quilt sparkle.  Alex calls this “fabric confidence” and I think these principles can be helpful with any monochromatic quilt.  As neutrals are timeless, tips on building and maintaining a stash of neutrals are included.  This small book may be timeless, too.
